FG declares January 2nd 2015 as public holiday

The Federal Government has declared January 2nd 2015 as public holiday to mark Eid el Maloud celebration. In a statement released  by the Minister of Interior affairs, Abba Moro, the Federal government asked Muslim faithfuls to offer prayers to God for the peace and Unity of Nigeria.

Nigeria Military jail Lt. Col., 15 others over abduction of Chibok girls

A Lieutenant Colonel, a Captain, a Second lieutenant and 12 other soldiers were sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Nigerian Military Court Martial which sat in Kaduna state yesterday Dec. 23rd over the abduction of over 200 female students of the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram insurgents on April 14th. According to Punch, the soldiers, Col. A. O. Ojo who was in charge of Chibok when the abduction took place, Capt. O. O. Ogunrinde, and 2nd Lieutenant V.I. Godknows were all handed two years imprisonment for what the  General Court Martial panel termed failure to perform. Col. Ojo was reportedly found guilty of passing out unverified information about the return of the abducted girls as well as not reinforcing the military personnel the night the abduction happened. Nigeria's foreign reserve drops by $500million in the last one week

Nigeria’s foreign reserve has depreciated by $544million in the last one week. According to Daily Independent, figures posted on the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN shows the nation’s foreign reserves stood at $35,740,495,640 as at December 11, but fell to $35,196,352,296 as at last week, December 18. This fall in foreign reserves is coming despite the devaluation of Nigeria's Naira. According to the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, a large sum form the foreign reserves is being spent in defending the Naira from falling following its devaluation. According to the governor, “The CBN took the decision that it would be sub-optimal to continue to use up the country’s reserves in defending the Naira. This decision was right because neither the Central Bank nor the Federal Government is in control of the major factors causing the depreciation of the nation’s currency. Meet Fahat Fahat, one of the 54 young Nigerian soldiers condemned to death by firing squard for refusing to fight Boko Haram with 'bare hands'. In his recent Facebook post, he said: "Hello ladies and gentle men. I am soldier and I am sentenced to death by the Nigerian Army. (be)Cause we did not go to fight Boko Haram without equipment. We ask for weapon instead (they) gave (us) death sentence." Jim Nwobodo's son Dr. Ifeanyi Nwobodo buried at uncle's compound

The remains of ‎ Sen. Jim Nwobodo's first son, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwu Nwobodo was finally laid to rest today. ‎He was buried in his father's elder brother's house, Chief John Nwobodo, Chairman of old Enugu Local Govt. Area...after his dad refused to allow his corpse buried in his compound. A source related to the family told LIB; "From the look of things, he was apparently buried on the arrangement of the  church and his siblings as his father was not seen around. His father's awareness of his burial could be traced from the heavy presence of security personnel in guard of his compound though he was not seen and also his second wife. Ifeanyi was buried in his uncle's house which shares the same fence with the fathers house instead of his fathers (irony of life)."

A youth corp member, Olaolu Ayoola, who is currently serving in Osun state has constructed a drone with features such as Surveillance camera, 20mins Fly Time and BB Monitor. Olaolu, a  graduate of Computer Science/Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Oyo state, had a test run of the drone on Monday December 15th during the closing ceremony of the orientation exercise for Batch C youth Corp members at the state's NYSC Orientation camp. Olaolu flew the drone for about 10minutes. Another photo after the cut... The Deputy Governor of Osun state and military officers who were present at the ceremony commended his efforts, describing it as a good invention.

Mel B's husband forced to deny beating her after she steps out with bruises

Looks like Mel B's 2nd marriage is either over or it's on the verge. The former Spice Girl was rushed to the hospital last week forcing her to miss a taping of X-Factor UK where she's a judge. After she returned to the show this week, sporting a few bruises on her face and no wedding ring, fans attacked her husband Stephen Belafonte, accusing him of beating Mel B. 10 Reps defect across parties

The House of Representatives witnessed series of defections on Tuesday. Speaker Aminu Tambuwal read out the announcement of the defectors at plenary. Five lawmakers from Ogun State moved from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the Social Democratic Party, SDP. They are Babatunde Ogunola ( Ado-odo/Ota), Adekunle Adeyemi ( Ifo Ewekoro), Olumide Osoba (Abeokuta North/ Obafemi- Owode/Odeda), Abiodun Abudu-Balogun (Ogun Waterside/Ijebu North /East) and Taofik Buraimoh ( Remo Federal Constituency). Four members also moved from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC. They are: Isau Mohammed ( Adamawa) Ibrahim El Sudi, (Taraba,)  Jagaba Adams, (kaduna) Herman Hembe ( Benue). The only female on the defection train, Aisha Ahmed Dahiru ( Adamawa) moved from the PDP to People’s Democratic Movement, PDM
