2015: Lagos Lawmakers Urge INEC Not To Be Partisan

Mr Yishawu Gbolahan, a member of Lagos State House of Assembly , on Friday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to be partisan in the conduct of the 2015 general elections.
Gbolahan advised the electoral body to emulate the method adopted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the conduct of its presidential primary.
The lawmaker, who is a member of the APC spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“All eyes are on INEC in 2015 general elections, the electoral body should make use of the method adopted by APC in conducting its free and fair presidential primary.
“It was an international practice in conducting election because people are waiting and looking forward to experience credible, free and fair elections in 2015,” he said.
The lawmaker added that the party has imbibed the international practice of conducting elections which made it possible to achieve a free and fair presidential primary.
Gbolahan noted that only true, credible, free and fair election would promote Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
Mr Bisi Yusuf, another member of the house, also appealed to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Atthiru Jega, to follow due process in the conduct of the 2015 elections.
Yusuf (APC-Alimsho I) noted that adequate preparations in term of logistics and training of personnel should be put in place before the elections.
“Jega has to conduct credible elections in 2015 to protect our democracy.
“The commission should follow due process and abstain from partisan politics to achieve free and fair elections,” he said.
The lawmaker congratulated retired Maj.-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari for picking APC’s presidential ticket.
He urged members of the APC to work for the success of the party at the forthcoming general elections. (NAN)
