The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the second phase of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by seven days.
The exercise which began yesterday (Monday, September 22) will end on Sunday, September 28, 2014, from 8am to 4pm each day.
The 12 states involved are Anambra, Bauchi, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, FCT, Jigawa, Kwara, Ondo, Oyo, Sokoto and Yobe.
The commission had earlier refused to extend the exercise despite complaints by many eligible voters that they were prevented from register due to heavy downpour when the exercise began on August 20.
Instead, INEC said it would create special centres in each of local government area in the affected states for people who were unable to register when the exercise ended on August 25 to do so.
But in a statement yesterday, the commission said the extension was “occasioned by the large turnout of eligible voters and the heavy rains that coincided with the exercise which took place from August 20-25, 2014”.
It advised eligible voters in the affected states to take advantage of the extension to register in order to vote in the 2015 general elections.
