NECO Results Show Slight Improvement In Performance

SEP 10, 2014
The National Examination Council (NECO) has announced a slight improvement in its 2014 May June Senior School Certificate Examination results.

Releasing the results at the Council headquarters in Minna, the Niger State capital, the Registrar, Professor Promise Okpala, said  52 Per cent of 989, 622 candidates, who sat for the examinations, scored credit pass and above in the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, compared to 48 per cent last year.

“We have to use those who made five credits, including English and Mathematics, as a measure of  quality of education at the secondary level.

“The whole trend is an indication that the efforts being made by Mr President, the Federal Ministry of Education, under the leadership of our two ministers and other stakeholders to improve the quality of teaching and learning in secondary schools are beginning to yield result,” Professor Okpala said.

He also mentioned that 16 school had been blacklisted by the council for their involvement in clear Examination malpractices.

More firepower against ISIS

Not weeks. Not months. Years. That's how long nations entering the fight against ISIS may need to be prepared to spend on the battle, British and U.S. officials say. British Prime Minister David Cameron told Parliament Friday of the likely length of the mission ahead of what turned out to be an overwhelming vote to send UK air power into the fight.
