We have proven that we are truly a resilient nation. 3.             In my address to the nation last year, I did emphasize that we were in a sober moment in our country. We are still in that mood in spite of the many accomplishments of

Jason Derulo denies cheating on Jording Sparks

Last week, Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks ended their engagement after three years together and there were rumours that it was because he cheated. Well, Jason denies they split over cheating… In a statement to the media Jason explains, "Though I think it is a private matter and intended to keep my break-up with Jordin personal, due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment. I spent three great years with Jordin and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met. But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part. Infidelity, cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our break-up, and I hope that people respect our privacy as we move forward with our lives."

Microsoft pips Sony to launch Xbox One in China

Microsoft has launched the Xbox One in China - becoming the first major console maker to enter what could be a massively lucrative market. The first consoles were sold in Shanghai, priced at 4,299 yuan ($699, £430). Sony and Nintendo are yet to launch their respective products. In January, the Chinese government lifted a 14-year ban on consoles, made because of worries over content. However, many popular titles, such as Call of Duty, will still be banned. Only 10 games were available to buy on the Xbox One's release - but Microsoft has said 70 titles are in the pipeline. Beating its rivals to the market may give Microsoft a much-needed sales boost. Its console is currently being outsold by Sony's PlayStation 4 in all major markets. But Piers Harding-Rolls, a games analyst from IHS, told the BBC: "There's advantages and disadvantages in being first. Media caption The BBC's Martin Patience reports on Microsoft's Xbox console as it officially goes on s

National honour award and Orji

TODAY September 29, some Nigerians will be conferred with the National Honour Award by President Goodluck Jonathan at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Among the awardees are President Jonathan’s steward, a taxi driver, a traffic warden and the Abia State governor, Chief Theodore Orji. In the recent past many have criticised the criteria for the selection of the awardees, while others believe that it is in order considering that it is a standard practice globally. Beside, it is a known fact that Nigeria is a fertile ground for undue armchair criticisms, especially when it involves the Presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. One remarkable thing about this year’s list of awardees is that it is all encompassing and qualitative given the men and women of integrity on parade. For some of the awardees, the award is long overdue, considering their track records in public service and the private sector over the years. But many believe that the award is better lat

Japan volcano: 30 hikers feared dead on Mt Ontake

Rescuers have found 30 lifeless hikers near the peak of Mount Ontake, after Saturday's sudden volcanic eruption . The hikers were not breathing and their hearts had stopped, reports said. Final confirmation of death in Japan always comes via a medical examination. About 250 people were trapped on the slopes, but most have got down safely. The volcano, about 200km (125 miles) west of Tokyo, erupted suddenly on Saturday, spewing ash and rocks. Ordinarily it is a popular place to see autumn foliage. The eruption continued under clear blue skies on Sunday As the search effort intensified earlier on Sunday, officials said they were searching for 30 feared missing or buried by ash. Military helicopters plucked seven people off the mountainside earlier on Sunday, the Associated Press reports, and workers on foot were also helping others make their way down. Japan is one of the world's most seismically active nations but there have been no fatalities from volcanic eruption
